Worship in the Temple

The worship in the temple is strictly according to Vaikhanasa Agama. According to Bhavishyottara Puranam,Vaikhanasa Maharishi (above)is said to have admired the leelas of Lord Krishna in Dvapara Yugam and did Tapas to obtain Darshan of the Lord Krishna. Lord Krishna then appeared to him and informed him that the sage should worship him as Lord Srinivasa only.

He was also directed to proceed to Seshachalam and worship Lord Srinivasa who had manifested Himself in an ant-hill. A Sudra by name Rangadasa would help him locate the Lord in the hill. Vaikhanasa Rishi is then said to have proceeded to Tirumalai, obtained the services of one Rangadasa, located the Lord in the ant hill and started worshipping the Lord of Tirumalai. Thus Vaikhanasa Rishi was the first person to worship the Lord of Tirumalai; the temple is to this day worshipped thaerefore according to the Vaikhanasa practices only. The routine of daily worship is now described briefly.

Bangaru Vakkili*

Suprabatham

The day starts with the Suprabatham or awakening of the Lord.
The Suprabatha Hymn is sung before the Bangaru Vakkili . Immediately
after this is over, the Bhoga Srinivasa who is in bed in the Sayana Mantapam
is shifted to the sanctum.Navanitha Harati is done to the Lord and a mixture
of cow's milk , butter and sugar is offered to the Deity. The devotees
who have chanted the hymns of the Suprabatham are then allowed to have
the darshan of the Lord. This darshan is called Suprabatha darshanam.
Devotees are usually given as prasadam, the mixture of milk , butter and
sugar offered to the Lord. The Viswarupaseva follows immeidately when all pilgrims waiting outside the temple are allowed to have darshan of the Lord.
The thirtham left in the thirtham vessels at night are also now distributed to
the devotees. As mentioned earlier , the celestials are supposed to worship
the Lord at night, and this thirtham is the thirtham of the puja performed by Brahma and other celestials.
